FAQ
Questions
- What size heater do I need?
- Roughly 10 watts per square foot for a room with normal insulation — a 150 sq ft bedroom wants about 1,500 W. If the room has high ceilings, single-pane windows or an outside wall, go one size up. Every product page lists the coverage we rate the unit for.
- How much does it cost to run?
- A 1,500 W heater on its high setting draws 1.5 kWh an hour. At the US average of about 17¢/kWh that is roughly 25¢ an hour, or about $2 for a full eight-hour evening. Running it on the low setting or letting the thermostat cycle cuts that substantially — the element is not on the whole time.
- Does the flame effect need the heat on?
- No. On every flame model listed here the LED flame runs independently, so you can have the fire without pushing warm air into a room that is already warm. About 21 of the 62 models have it.
- Can I leave it running overnight or while I am out?
- We do not recommend it, and neither does the CPSC. Every unit here has a tip-over cut-off and a thermal cut-off, which is exactly why the guidance exists: a heater should be off when nobody is awake to notice a problem. Use the timer and let it shut itself down.
- Can I plug it into a power strip?
- No. A space heater is the one appliance that should go straight into a wall outlet. Power strips and extension cords are not rated for a continuous 1,500 W draw, and that combination is behind a large share of residential heater fires.
- How loud is it?
- The fan is the only moving part. Tower and desktop ceramic units run in the low 40s dB on low — about the level of a quiet conversation — and noticeably quieter than that on fan-only. Flame-effect models with no heat on are effectively silent, because the blower is not running.
- Where does my order ship from?
- US stock. Every heater listed is already on a shelf here, which is why delivery is two to five business days rather than a cross-border wait.
- Can I return it?
- Thirty days on an unused unit in its original carton. If it arrives damaged or is not what you ordered, send a photo and we ship the replacement first — you do not wait for the return to land.
